My Jadeite Dollar Tree Bowl Ornament

My “jadeite” version of the Dollar Tree bowl ornament features a soft, vintage green finish with classic holiday embellishments. Here’s how I created it:

Step 1: Prepare the Bowls
Lightly sand the plastic bowls to help the paint adhere better or use several coats of chalk paint. Clean off any dust and dry thoroughly.

Step 2: Paint the Bowls
Apply two coats of Apple Barrel Paint in “Spring Green,” allowing each coat to dry thoroughly. Once the second coat is dry, lightly dry brush white chalk paint over the surface to create a distressed, vintage effect.

Step 3: Paint the Topper
Paint a small plastic bowl white to use as the ornament topper. Once dry, attach it to the top of the large bowls using E6000 glue and a touch of hot glue to hold it in place while the stronger adhesive sets.

Step 4: Assemble the Ornament
Use E6000 or super glue gel as well as a layer of hot glue to attach the large bowls together, aligning the edges carefully. Let the glue cure fully before handling the ornament.

Step 5: Add Embellishments
Glue a sprig of fir and red berries to the base of the topper, then tie a red gingham ribbon into a bow and secure it to the top for a festive finish.
