How to Make Easy DIY Candles at Home + 13 Unique Candle Container Ideas

Making a DIY candle at home has never been easier with my new favorite candle repour kit shortcut. Candles are my favorite way to elevate my mood year round and creating them with this fun kit makes it super simple. You’ll be re-pouring candles into anything you can get your hands on in no time.  Learn how easy it is to make these DIY candles at home plus learn 13 unique container ideas.

What You’ll Need to Make Your Own DIY Candles at Home

• Container of your choice
• Microwave
• Scissors
• Candle Re-Pour Kit 

Watch Step-by-Step Video Instructions on How to Repour DIY Candles

1. Choose your scent. (see below)
2. Microwave your re-pour container for 30 seconds and then squish the sides only.
3. Return the candle wax to the microwave for 15-30 seconds longer then remove it carefully and check the consistency.
4. Continue microwaving and checking the wax for up to another minute until it is completely melted.
5. Apply wick stickers to the bottom of your container.
6. Attach wicks to the stickers.
7. Stabilize your wicks with the chopsticks.  Use a weight if needed. (I used my ‘share’ block)

8. Pour DIY Candle wax into your container slowly, then tap lightly on the surface to smooth out any bubbles. For best results, allow to cure for up to 7 days before enjoying.

• Vintage tins are a fun way to recycle something old and create a DIY candle at home. Sometimes these tins are hard to find, making them much more special to collect a set or give as a gift! Guess which scent I’m using in this tin?

• A recycled brick can be a fun and inexpensive way to create a unique candle poured at home. The vintage bricks could be a fun conversation piece to add to a spring porch tablescape.
• My friend over at Marmeez makes the most amazing Wooden Dough Bowl Candles!  Dough bowls make a great container for DIY candles, but if you’d rather grab one of her ready-to-go candles, you can shop them HERE. 

• Copper mugs are pretty all on their own, but what if they could double as a homemade candle? This makes it one of my top choices of containers for re-pouring a candle.  Traditionally used for a “Moscow Mule” cocktail, this unique DIY Candle will now be able to make it’s debut at the dinner table in a whole new light!  LOL

• You know by now how much I love a good Starbucks and what better way to recycle a Starbucks bottle than be transitioning it into a DIY candle made at home! This is one of my favorite container ideas–probably because I always find myself with extra Starbucks bottles around the house. • I don’t know about you but I love seashells!  They’re so fun to find on the beach and collect from a memorable trip.  How special to use them as a unique DIY candle display. See my tutorial video below.

• Vintage Glassware is my favorite container for creating and displaying candles. There are so many choices to choose from and half the fun is shopping for just the perfect piece to use. This amber candy dish is gorgeous!

• Gorgeous goblets and glasses no longer need to hide out in the china cabinet!  Make your tablescape special by making a DIY candle using a crystal champagne flute or wine glass. These can be found in most thrift stores at a huge discount when they are not part of a complete set! 

• Ordinary tin cans can be recycled into nice looking DIY candles with some fun embellishments like this little “love” tag, scrap ribbons, paint or a decoupaged napkin or pretty fabric. I love repurposing old tin cans–check out this creative DIY using recycled tin cans.

• Any variety of vintage china teacups make a great candle for displaying.  What a fun way to recycle those single pieces of china that are not otherwise being used.  I love to keep my eye out for these in antique malls, booths and flea markets.  You never know what you’ll find!

• Oranges are a super simple container idea for repouring your candles. Scoop out the center and pour your favorite citrus scent inside or use a few drops of citronella to keep the bugs away!  

• Mason jars make the easiest candle containers!  They are so easy to find and I love that they are ‘see-through’ so that you can get extra creative with what you use to embellish your candle.
  

• Cookie Cutters are a fun way to create unique candles at home! Be sure to place them inside another container when you’re ready to burn them!  These seasonal cutters are cute diy candles.

DIY Candles Make Great Gifts, Too!

I love making these quick and easy microwaveable candles!
