Mason Jar Car Fragrance
One of my favorite finds at Dollar General was a simple mason jar with seasonal wax melts. At first glance, it seemed like a cute but basic item. But with a quick flip, it became the perfect car fragrance for the season!
I took the jar and poked a few small holes in the lid, allowing the holiday scents to slowly fill the car with a warm and cozy aroma. The wax melts inside release their fragrance gradually, keeping the car smelling like Christmas all season long.
It’s such an easy, affordable way to bring a bit of holiday cheer with you wherever you go. Watch my YouTube tutorial for the step-by-step process!
Subdued Nativity Scene
The classic nativity scene is a staple in holiday decor, but the one I picked up had a bit of a dated look. To give it a more modern, subtle feel, I decided to paint over the original colors.
I started with a coat of white paint, which softened the overall look. Then, I added a few delicate touches using watercolors, blending gentle tones to highlight the details of each figure.
The result is a serene, beautifully muted nativity scene that feels fresh and elegant, perfect for adding a touch of tradition without overwhelming the space. This little makeover turned out to be one of my favorite projects, and I walk you through it in my YouTube video.
Revamped Ticking Striped Pillow
Next up, I found a simple red and white ticking striped pillow with the words “Merry Christmas” printed on the front. It was cute, but a bit flat and plain for my taste.
I decided to add more polyfil to give it a fuller, cozier look. Then, I sewed some ric rac around the lettering to add texture and a touch of vintage charm. To finish it off, I glued on a few black buttons and tied a small bow in one corner.
These little adjustments gave the pillow so much more character, transforming it from a basic store-bought item into a charming handmade-looking accent that stands out on my sofa.
Felt Nutcracker Doorhanger with Faux Boxwood Wreath
Lastly, I came across an adorable felt nutcracker doorhanger that had so much potential but felt a bit small on its own. To give it more presence, I decided to layer it over a faux boxwood wreath.
The greenery provided the perfect backdrop, making the nutcracker look more substantial and festive. The combination of the traditional nutcracker design with the lush greenery of the wreath turned a simple doorhanger into a statement piece for my front door.
It’s amazing how adding one extra element can take a decoration from flat to fabulous. Check out the full process in my tutorial video!
These Dollar General flips are proof that you don’t need to spend a fortune to create beautiful Christmas decor. With a little imagination and a few supplies, you can turn even the simplest items into something special.
