Supplies You’ll Need to Make this Halloween Craft:
- Empty Downy bottle (rescued from the recycle bin)
- Box cutter (from Dollar Tree)
- White chalk paint
- Heat tool
- Foam Paintbrush
- Dollar Tree chalkboard sticker vinyl
- Chalk
- Scissors
- Black spooky florals (from Michaels)
- Hot glue gun (optional, for securing ghost face or florals)
Step 1: Prepare the Downy Bottle
Start by grabbing an empty Downy bottle from your recycling bin like I did…
Remove any labels and thoroughly clean the bottle, making sure it’s completely dry before moving on to the next step.
Using a Sharpie, draw a rough opening. Then using a box cutter from Dollar Tree, carefully cut off the top portion of the bottle.
This will create an open top like a pitcher that you can fill with florals later. Be sure to cut evenly around the bottle for a smooth edge.
Step 2: Paint the Bottle
Next, it’s time to transform your Downy bottle into a ghost! Apply three coats of white chalk paint to the entire surface of the bottle.
Chalk paint works great on plastic and provides a nice matte finish that gives the ghost a classic, spooky look.
Allow each coat to dry completely before applying the next. This will ensure even coverage and prevent the paint from chipping.
Step 3: Create the Ghost Face
Once the paint is fully dry, it’s time to add a face to your ghost. Using Dollar Tree chalkboard sticker vinyl, draw out cute eyes and a mouth using chalk. You can make the face as friendly or spooky as you like!
To create the eyes, cut out two oval shapes, and for the mouth, you can cut out a simple curved shape or even add a little “O” for a surprised ghost look.
Peel off the backing from the vinyl pieces and carefully stick them onto the front of the painted bottle.
Step 4: Add Spooky Florals
To give your ghost some Halloween flair, fill the open top of the bottle with black spooky florals from Michaels.
Arrange the flowers so they spill out of the top, adding a touch of eerie elegance to your ghost.
If you want the florals to stay securely in place, you can use a hot glue gun to attach them to a styrofoam block down the inside of the bottle.
Step 5: Display Your Downy Bottle Ghost
Your Downy Bottle Ghost Face Halloween Craft is now complete!
Display it on your porch, mantel, or as part of a Halloween centerpiece to add a fun, upcycled touch to your decor.
This ghostly figure is sure to be a conversation starter and a unique addition to your Halloween decorations.
Tips and Tricks for Making this Halloween Craft:
- Customize Your Ghost: Experiment with different face shapes and expressions using the vinyl to give each ghost its own personality.
- Glow in the Dark: For an extra spooky effect, consider using glow-in-the-dark paint for the ghost’s face or adding a small LED light inside the bottle.

This Downy Bottle Ghost Face Halloween Craft is a fantastic way to turn an ordinary household item into a unique and festive Halloween decoration.
