How To Make Instant Pot Chili
Feel free to change things up if you need to, throw in some veggies, swap the hamburger for ground chicken or turkey, add more spice, or use less spice. Whatever works for you.
- Turn the Instant Pot on to Saute mode. Add in hamburger and onion, cooking through.
- Add the tomatoes, cumin, chili powder, curry powder, and beef broth to the Instant Pot.
- Without stirring, place the lid on the Instant Pot, ensuring the valve is set to the SEALING MODE.
- Turn the Instant Pot on by hitting the CHILI/BEAN BUTTON and adjusting the time to 12 minutes. Allow the Instant Pot to cook and release naturally. Once there is no more steam you can set the valve to release.
- If the chili isn’t as thick as you’d like, add in the tomato paste and stir to ensure the tomato paste breaks down and heats through.
- Serve and enjoy!
- Add cheese, sour cream, extra onions, and other toppings as desired.
Leftover chili can be kept for 3-4 days in an airtight container in the fridge. You can also freeze leftovers for up to 3 months. Allow frozen chili to thaw in the fridge overnight and then reheat over the stove or in the microwave.
Variations
- Mix in a can of beans; pinto, black, or kidney beans would all taste great.
- Throw in canned corn or frozen corn.
- Add your favorite veggies with the onion and hamburger meat; red bell peppers or carrots would both work well in chili.
- Try a different ground meat instead of the hamburger; ground turkey or chicken will both work well.
- Spice up the chili and add some chipotle in adobo sauce or a diced jalapeno.
- Add ketchup as a topping!
Tips and Tricks
- Top the chili with sour cream and serve with a side of guacamole.
- Sprinkle each plate with some grated cheddar cheese and crushed taco chips.
- Make sure to saute the meat well so it is cooked before you add the other ingredients.
- Ensure your spices still have flavor. Spices left too long in the pantry will lose their potency.
- Don’t skimp on the liquid needed to make this chili, if there isn’t enough in the Instant Pot, the chili will burn.
